What is Striking?

  • Striking refers to combat techniques involving punches, kicks, elbow strikes, and knee strikes against an opponent.
  • Typical striking martial arts include Boxing, Muay Thai, and Kickboxing.
  • Unlike grappling martial arts that focus on wrestling, throws, and submission techniques, striking emphasizes hitting the opponent from a distance or in direct stand-up combat.

Boxing

is one of the most renowned striking arts, focusing on punching techniques. Movement and defense are crucial for both effectiveness and protection.

Kickboxing

combines boxing and kicking techniques. It merges elements of traditional Karate with boxing to create a versatile striking art.

Muay Thai

also known as Thai Boxing, employs not only fists but also elbows, knees, and shins as weapons. The clinch (standing grappling) is another essential component.

Kung Fu

(also known as Gong Fu or Wushu) encompasses a collection of Chinese martial arts with a rich history and philosophy. Kung Fu emphasizes fluid movements, combining both striking and kicking techniques with traditional forms and internal practices. Various styles, from animal imitations to more meditative forms, are encompassed under the term "Kung Fu."
