Grappling Classes

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

What is Grappling?

  • Grappling involves techniques to overpower an opponent without striking. It focuses on close combat and ground fighting, often incorporating throws and holds.
  • It serves sports, self-defense, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) purposes.
  • At Roots Collective, we offer No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Gi BJJ, Wrestling, and MMA Grappling.

(Note: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is often abbreviated as BJJ.)

Gi BJJ

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practiced with a Gi (traditional kimono). The Gi is utilized for both offensive and defensive purposes, emphasizing leverage and technique.

No-Gi BJJ

A style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu where traditional Gi attire is not worn. Fighters typically wear rashguards and spats or shorts. Without the Gi, the focus is on speed and agility.

Submission Wrestling

A combat sport in which two participants attempt to bring each other to the mat through holds and throws, exerting control that can lead to the opponent's submission.

MMA Grappling

Grappling adapted specifically for the context of Mixed Martial Arts. It combines techniques from various grappling styles to be effective in an MMA fight.

Wall Wrestling

Specific training where grappling techniques are employed against a wall or cage. This prepares fighters for situations often occurring at the cage wall in MMA fights.

  • Gi or Kimono

For the trial training, shorts and a t-shirt are sufficient. You can borrow items at the gym.

  • Grappling arts are not only a great alternative to traditional fitness training and yoga, but they also provide a diverse full-body workout.
  • In addition to physical benefits, they enhance self-confidence and mental strength through learning new techniques and solving complex challenges.
  • The positive effects of grappling can prove useful in everyday life.
